The Aura is the electromagnetic field that surrounds the human body (Human Energy Field-HEF) and every organism and object in the Universe.

In Parapsychology and many forms of spiritual practice, an Aura is a Field of Subtle, Luminous Radiation surrounding a person or object (like the halo or Aureola in Religious Art). The depiction of such an aura often connotes a person of particular power or holiness.

The Aura of any form of life can be defined as the quality of a Sphere of Radiatory Activity. Very little is as yet known about auras, and a great deal of nonsense has been written anent the matter.

The Aura is usually spoken of in terms of colour and of light, due to the nature of the vision of the one who sees, and the apparatus of response which is in use. Two words only describe an Aura from the point of view of Occult Knowledge and they are 'Quality' and 'Sphere of Influence'. What the clairvoyant really contacts is an impression which the mind rapidly tranlates into the symbology of colour, whereas there is no colour present. Seeing an aura, as it is called, is in reality a state of awareness.

Various writers associate various personality traits with the colors of different layers of the aura. It has also been described as a map of the thoughts and feelings surrounding a person.

Sometimes, however, it is said that all living things (including humans) and all objects manifest such an aura. Often it is held to be perceptible, whether spontaneously or with practice: such perception is at times linked with the third eye of Indian spirituality.

That the seer may in all sincerity believe that he has registered a colour, a series of colours, or light, is entirely true in many cases, but what he has really recorded is the quality of a sphere of radiatory acitivity; this he does when his own individual sphere of radiatory activity is of the same nature and quality as that contacted. Most seers register the astral range of vibrations of a person or a group and this through the medium of their own astral body. The impact of a truth or of a mental concept and it recognition, is an expression of a similar contact, carried forward this time into the realm of the mind."

Ideas of the Aura are well represented in Indian Religions. The Buddhist flag represents the colours seen around the enlightened Buddha.

In Jainism the concept of Lesya relates colours to mental and emotional dispositions. To the Indian teacher Meher Baba the aura is of seven colours, associated with the subtle body and its store of mental and emotional impressions. Spiritual practice gradually transforms this aura into a spiritual halo. Hindu and Buddhist sources often link these colours to Kundalini Energy and the Chakras.

In the classical western mysticism of neoplatonism and Kabbalah the aura is associated with the lustre of the astral body, a subtle body identified with the planetary heavens, which were in turn associated with various mental faculties in an elaborate system of correspondences with colours, shapes, sounds, perfumes etc.

The symbolism of light found in the Bible is at times associated with the idea of the aura or "body of light": similar interpretations are found in Islamic traditions.

According to the literature of Theosophy, Anthroposophy, and Archeosophy also, each colour of the aura has a meaning, indicating a precise emotional state. A complete description of the aura and its colours was provided by Charles Leadbeater, a theosophist of the 19th century. The works of Leadbeater were later developed by Palamidessi and others.

The Aura consist of seven levels/layers/auric bodies . Each one of the subtle bodies that exist around the physical body, has its own unique frequency. They are interrelated, and affect one another and the person's feelings, emotions, thinking, behaviour, and health as well. Therefore a state of imbalance in one of the bodies leads to a state of imbalance in the others.
